At EF+Math, Tiu co-leads the program, directs the portfolio of awarded research and development teams, oversees collaboration with the program’s independent evaluator, and manages the program team and operations. She brings her skills and expertise in program leadership, research and evaluation, and classroom practice to the EF+Math Program.
Prior to joining EF+Math, Tiu was Director of Educational Technology at WestEd, where she oversaw the agency’s work related to the research and evaluation of edtech products. She led WestEd’s portfolio of Small Business Innovation Research grants, funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. Additionally, she served as the principal investigator for the National Educational Technologies Activities project, funded by the Office of Educational Technology; as project director for WestEd’s research partnership with NewSchools Venture Fund; and as a lead researcher for the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready to Learn educational television and digital media grant.
Tiu began her career as a high school mathematics teacher, teaching at a charter school in Hayward, California, and at an international school in Hong Kong. She earned her S.B. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
